I hope this finds you. I see it has been awhile since you last looked here. My great-great-grandfather was Alfred Butler, brother of your great-grandfather. Their parents were Richard Butler, born 1826 and Mary Hanrahan 1833. Richard's parents were Thomas Butler 1796-1880 and Mary Barron 1795- 1871, of Yorkshire, England. Richard has siblings James 1818-1875 (married to another Hanrahan sister, Ellen) Catherine 1819, Thomas 1824-1899, John 1826-1900 (married Eliza Mary Barry 1836-1897), Mary 1829-1908 (married Mathew Galavan 1823-1882), Peter Butler 1830, Bridget Butler 1834, and David Butler 1836.
As I said, my grandfather was Alfred. He married his first cousin (on both sides!) Catherine Butler 1864-1940. She was the daughter of James and Ellen Hanrahan-Butler. Alfred came to NYC first in 1882, and then went back to Inistioge to marry Catherine and bring her to Chicago in 1890.
Info on the Hanrahan side: Mary was the daughter of James 1798-1866 and Ellen (unknown maiden name). There was a brother, Edward, who I recently learned about while reading an interesting letter written by your great grandfather to his aunt Mary Butler Galavan. He was NOT happy in this letter! I know that Edward Hanrahan came to the US, but know nothing about him other than that. There are sure to be other siblings of the Hanrahans which I have not discovered yet.
