I am not related just like to help people locate resources for genealogy purposes.
Thomas Blanchfield: I found two in the USA census 1880:Film No. 1254079
1) San Francisco age 51 born 1829 labourer, born Ireland
wife Hannah 42, born Ireland, fa: Scot Mo. Irish
son Edmund 28 born NY, Butcher
son Andrew 22 born Ireland, blacksmith
Film No. 1254225
2)born 1828 age 52, Farmer, born Ireland
Anne 40
+ 8 children born in Illinois.
A check of a bmd registry includes Co. Kilkenny in its database.
There is a record of a church baptism for a Thomas Blanchfield born 1829. This would have his parents names and mother's maiden name and church/parish. Due to rootsweb policies I cannot give you this website on this message board, however, if you contact me at codeannette@yahoo.ca I can provide that.
I checked the www.familysearch.org for the census found above and also their new pilot program and no Thomas Blanchfield. I do note the name had other spellings used in those days Blanch/Blanchville as well as Blanchfield.
Checking the Griffiths Valuations of 1852 there were Blanchfield's living in Jockeyhall, Jerpoint Abbey, Thomastown Parish. The two names were of Edmund Blanchfield Jockeyhall, Jerpointabbey and I see in the lst. census a first son named Edmund, a second property in the name of Edmund Blanchfield was Mullennakill, Jerpointabbey.
Jerpoint Abbey is near (2 K.south) Thomastown in the RC Diocese of Ossory. The RC baptism records for this parish go back to 1782.
The National Library in Dublin has these records, also the National Archives have a copy their file no. is P5024.
If you let me know which of the census is your family and you don't have earlier census ie: 1860's,1870's,and 1890+
I can given you them as well.
