Classification: Query
Seeking information on children of John Lawless and Mary Hobin/Hoban from the parish of Gowran, County Kilkenny, Ireland. I find Bridget, my 2great grandmother, in Niagara-by-the-Lake, Lincoln County, Ontario, Canada in 1839. She marries, Thomas McCarthy/McCarty, son of Charles and Catherine Fleming McCarthy/McCarty. from the parish of Kilmoe/Kilmore (original is hard to read), County Cork, Ireland. Witnesses: Daniel O'Donnell, Michael Maguire, & Ellen McCarty; relationship, if any, not indicated, Clergyman: Edward Gordon; RC;
It appears that the parents of both the bride and groom remained in Ireland. Thomas and Bridget's first 2 sons were born and baptised in Canada, Charles born 13 Aug 1839, and John, born 23 Oct 1831. Both sons were baptised in Canada, by Father Edward Gordon, RC. Family then migrated through Buffalo, Erie, NY; Marietta, Washington, OH; Wheeling, VA (now W VA), and settling in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY. Ultimately having 6 sons. Thomas, and all of Thomas' sons were ships calkers (corkers) by occupation. Thomas died, presuably in Louisville, between 1850-1860. Bridget appears in Covington, Kenton County, KY on the 1882 city directory, By 1900, all four surviving sons of Thomas and Bridget were in Paducah, McCracken County, KY where they lived until their deaths, and continued to work as ship's calkers(corkers). There is no indication that Bridget was buried in Paducah, so assume she passed before or during the boy's migration to Paducah, Seeking any information on the family, or siblings, in Gowran parish, County Kilkenny, Ireland.
