Trying to determine if this Soldier is my wife's great grandfather. Kennedy Daniel Private 3282 47th Foot (Lancashire) Severe Wound The Assault on the Quarries 7 June 1855 Also Severe Wound, 27 August 1855
Family history says: "He fought as a soldier of the British Army in the battle at Alma in the Crimean War (Sep 20 1854) and was wounded four times. He was shot in the leg, the arm, the side and a good portion of his skull was blown off by a Russian shell. He was put on the "dead wagon". A nurse by the name of Margaret Donald, who worked with Florence Nightingale on the battlefield, noticed that he still had a pulse and pulled him from the wagon. He was transferred to a hospital in Scutari, Turkey for recovery. A steel plate was put in his head to cover the wound. Margaret took care of him and eventually they were married on Nov. 6, 1856 in Rathsaran, Laoighis, Ireland".
Margaret was a Scot (and according to one baptismal record, born Feb 13 1839 in Aberdeen daughter of James Donald and Isabella Davidson) and a protestant. They moved to Canada in 1863 with their older son (Edward) George, and Patrick James (six months old) and settled in Chatham, Ontario, Canada.
