Further research has shown that some of the information in my original post was incorrect.

Charles Banting Whelan was the son of a Michael Whelan and Mary Bates Whelan. Mary was a widow of William Bates and - I have no clue what her maiden name may have been.

Michael Whelan had a brother John and a sister Elizabeth. All were the children of Michael Whelan and Elizabeth Banting. I do not know if there were other siblings.

Elizabeth married a Christopher Clemishaw.

Charles Banting Whelan had a brother William and an adopted daughter Ann Mahon.

Charles Banting Whelan married Mary Eliza Farrar - daughter of Geroge W. Farrar and Sophie Winslow.

CB Whelan and Mary had one son - William Farrar Whelan who married Harriet Eliza Ann McDowell.
