Campbell and Naming Guide of Children

Surnames: Campbell, Kinlan
My GG-Grandmother, Mary Ann (Campbell) Kinlan named her only son William. I didn't think "William" was an Irish name and figured it was maybe Scottish. Not knowing where my GG-Grdm was born, I thought maybe her father was named William and she named her son after him. Does anyone know what the guide was, generally, for naming of children in early 1800's Ireland? This family lived in Kilsaran, County, Louth, Ireland and had babies baptized in St Mary's Catholic Church in Kilsaran which is not far from Dundalk.

Thanks, Jane
