Thanks to Diane Culhane, I was able to locate accurate marriage information for my great grandparents: John Browne of Caherduff, Cong and Mary Nally of af Muckrussaun, Cong (married 15-11-1890 in Neale; groom 26 yrs pf age; bride 23 years of age. I've requested a certified copy of that information from the Civil Registration Office in Roscommon.
From the civil marriage record from the online database of Mayo Family History Centres, I know their father's names: Pat Browne and James Nally. Because I do not have any confirmation on their wive's names, though, it's difficult to trace back another generation. Based on census data and marriage data I can estimate John and Mary's birth dates. But there are many John Brownes and Mary Nallys in the Cong alone. Thus, I haven't been able to nail down birth records since I don't know both parents' names.
Would an Irish researcher kindly suggest what the next logical step would be in identifying the parents of Pat Browne and James Nally? I don't want to assume that they were born in exactly the same townland as their children.
I was one of the fortunate ones who had the privilege of growing up with my grandmother Mary Browne Kearney in our household. So we were familiar with townland names and great grandparents' names. But no farther.
Best Regards,
Katie
