GEORGIANA FRANCES MCKAY

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Looking to find the parents of Georgiana(or Georgina) Frances McKay. She was born in 1856, married James George Hubert Fox on 31 May 1877 at Galtrim, Meath, Ireland. She died on 30th June 1879. I know her father was Rev.C Elrington McKay, but cannot find anything about her Mother. I am led to believe that her mother was the daughter of George Ogle Moore (MP for Dublin 1826-1831) Would love to know if this is correct and the names if possible.

Has anyone heard of the General Dillin household in County Meath. My ggGrandfather Thomas McKown was a gardener there where he met his wife Mary Bellew. She and a sister and all 5 Bellew brothers worked in that household before immigrating to New York State in 1819. I'm interested in the location since I do not know parents of Thomas but he was born in 1778 in County Meath and married there 1 Dec 1811. Thomas & Mary had 3 sons born in County Meath. Patrick McKnow born 28 Aug 1812 and John who died young in County Meath plus James born 21 Dec 1818.

I am looking for Bellew ancestors that lived in County Louth or County Meath around the 1850's. Particularly, Margarete Catherine "Kate" Bellew (Father's name is John Bellew). She came to the USA in July of 1895. I know that Margaret had a brother Michael and Patrick had a brother John and maybe a brother Richard. There were probably more siblings that I am not aware of. Any information would be appreciated.

I am looking for any information regarding Joseph Callery who migrated from Meath to New York around the mid 1850's. He married Bridget Cook in Brooklyn and they had 2 of their children there, Edward and Julia. They lived with many other Irish and he worked in a brickyard. In a early census they are listed in Cortlandtown. Thanks so much.

THUNDER surname of Meath and Dublin

Hi.
My grandmother was a THUNDER - an incredibly unusual surname. I'm very keen to get in touch with any other THUNDERs out there. I believe the Irish pronounce it Tonder.
Her father, Joseph Thunder, migrated to Australia from Ireland in 1857. His father was Patrick Thunder whom I believe was from a Dublin brewing family, and Joseph's mother was Margaret Hayden.
I'm aware my THUNDERs were originally from the area of Ballaly and Swords. last time I was in Ireland I also visited the town of Ratoath (pronounced Ratoat), north of Dublin, where there is a family vault. Nearby is the farmstead of Lagore, which was once a Thunder farm.
I've heard it is a Norse name, dating back in Ireland possibly as far back as the 12th century.
Happy upcoming St Patrick's Day.
Carolyn Webb
Melbourne, Australia.

They were of Lagore near Bellewstown and are traced as landowners since early 19th century but the name does not seem to appear in English records.
Can this be an anglicisation of a Gaelic name, if so, any suggestions?

Searching for the family of my gggrandfather, Patrick Plunkett born approx 1776. He was said to have had five brothers and three sisters. The family originated in Oldcastle, Co. Meath and was said to have been descended from the marriage of James Plunkett of Clonabraney and Elizabeth Plunkett of Loughcrew. Patrick married Mary O'Donoghue, possibly also from Oldcastle area, and by 1821 they were living approx. "six miles west" at Tonagh, Mountnugent parish, in Co. Cavan. They had the following children: Thomas abt. 1813, Luke 1816, Mary 1819 and James abt. 1822. His brother James married Helena McPartland from Finea, Co. Westmeath. Luke became a barrister, never married and died in Dublin in 1858. Mary emigrated to Chicago and never married.
My great grandfather Charles Patrick Matthews was born approx. 1864. He came to America approx. 1887.His first wife was Catherine, his second was Elizabeth. So far I found the names of his children are Robert James(my grandfather), Joseph Martin and Charles Patrick jr.I do not have anymore information on him, except I know he was the president of an Irish county organization here in America, in the early 1900's called Knights and Ladies of Tara. Does this information sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be greatly appreciated as my dad is now 83 and he would like to know more about his heritage.
There is a closed cemetery on the Nicholson estate, at Balrath Burry, just south west of Kells, on the road to Mullingar. I have information that there was an iron church erected there in 1877 by John Nicholson. Does anyone know where I might find the records of burials at that church?
Paul, Edward, Francis (Frank) Gargan

I am researching my Gargan ancestry of County Meath. I was under the impression that they were from County Westmeath, but some new information has come to light recently from immigration and passport applications that stated that some of my Gargans were from Co.Meath.

My great great grandfather, Paul Gargan was born in Co. Meath around 1820. His son, Edward was born around 1840 and he and Catherine Fleeson married around 1858 and had about 8-10 children from Ireland to Sulford, Manchester England where my grandfather Edward Jr was born in 1873. Edward's brother, Francis (Frank) was born on August 7,1860 in County Meath, according to his immigration record and later passport record. Some of Edward and Francis's siblings were, Patrick, John, James,Theresa and Mary

I am wondering if anyone else is researching this family or could steer me toward a marriage certificate for Edward and Catherine, around 1858 or 59? Thank you Dorothea

Malone Family History

Hello, I am looking for information on a Malone family from Meath Co. Ireland. The names I have are Michael and Patrick Malone. They were brothers. They left Ireland years apart, around 1846-60. Michael was born around 1834, and Patrick around 1844. In about 1846 Michael's father took him to the U.S. Patrick later came over on his own. Their father went back and forth between Ireland and the U.S. at least once.

Michael settled in New Orleans and had the following children: Albert, Clarence, George, Walter, Anna (Annie), Mary (Renshaw), Emma, and a "Mrs. Joseph Irvine".

Patrick settled first in Illinois and eventually owned a farm in Page, North Dakota. Patrick's children were: Christopher, John, Edward, Joseph, Kate, Mary, and a "Mrs. William Cassidy". Their father also came to the U.S. but I do not know his name or where he ended up.

Please contact me if you know anything about this Malone family. I would also be happy to hear about general Malone history in Ireland.

Thank you!
Diana

Keywords: Patrick Malone Michael Malone Meath Co.
Vermont/Meath Monahans

Looking for info on my ancestors places of origin. My ggg-grandfather/ggg-grandmother Owen and Bridget Monahan gave birth to Patrick (gg-grandfather) Nov. 24th 1800 in "Clinch", "Oristown". He married Margaret Carroll and they had a number of children, including John(g-grandfather) some of the children's birth records have an address of Clinch, Oristown, County Meath. Also there is a record of Owen and Patrick Monahan having property in "Wilkinstown". Where are these places located and what are they? Towns? Cities? Parishes? At some time in the mid 1800s most of the family, either peicemeal or all together, emigrated to Rutland Vermont and began working in the marble quarries. Patrick Sr., Margaret (carroll) Monahan, sons Patrick Jr., James, John, daughters Catherine, Anna and Mary are all buried in St. Peters cemetary in Rutland Vermont USA. However this does not account for all of the family and some probably stayed in Ireland around these mentioned places. Any information will be appreciated.

I've recently learned that my Warren ancestors were born in Drogheda. The document that I have lists Co. Meath as their county of origin, although I know that Drogheda is actually in Co. Louth.

I would like to search St. Mary's (RC) records if anyone has access to these for my Warren ancestors. Patrick (b. 1829), Joseph (b. 1838), James (b. 1840), and Thomas (b. 1843). These siblings were the sons of John and Catherine Warren of Drogheda.

If anyone can provide any information which might help me dig up other records on these individuals I would be grateful. Many thanks,

Jim Warren

FAY Family (Moynalty Parish - Maio???)

I am researching the Fay family from Co. Meath, Moynalty parish. John Fay married Bridget Clarke and had at least 6 children born between 1850 and 1871 (Peter, Anne, Patrick, John, Mary and Bridget). In the Moynalty parish records, John Fay was listed as being from Maio. Is Maio a town or street? I did a search on the internet and could only come up with the address Maio, Tierworker, Kells. Can anyone help me with identifying where or what Maio is?
Thanks!

McDonald-O'Brien

I have conflicting information on the Ireland county of origin of my James S. McDonald, between Westmeath and Meath. James was born 22 Feb 1829 to parents Saunders McDonald (b. Edinburgh, Scotland about 1807) and Mary O'Brien, native of same undetermined Ireland county. One source has Saunders and Mary marrying in 1832, which of course conflicts with James dob. Same source has both dying mid 1860s in Ireland. This source also has James as the third of nine children. Would anyone have information on this family or know where I might find out more. Thanks for any help.
Bonnie in OK, USA

Michael Mealia

Looking for any family connections to Michael Mealia born about 1825 in Meath (Obtained this from his marriage record. He married in Fremantle, West Australia to a girl from Kilkenny). He joined the British army at about 16 yrs of age and was in the 99th Regiment of Foot, Regimental Number 1228. He was sent to New South Wales (Aust) in the 1st Muster. He was set to work there for a time mining coal and later became a guard for the convicts. Sent to Norfolk Island then to Van Diemans Land (Tasmania). We have traced his movements on on film reels in the Battye Library in Perth. The last record found was in 1856 when back in Victoria. He must have been injured or become ill somewhere. The next he is on a ship to Western Australia as a pensioner guard arriving here from England in 1862 being pensioned off in Kilkenny. So far with a lot of searching we cant find his birth place etc. Love to hear from anyone who might have had an old uncle of grandfather with that name in Meath
Thankyou in anticipation. Margaret Richardson, Western Australia
