My earliest ancestor (Robert Draffen) shows up in Albemarle county, Virginia in 1785, so I do not think that we have a descendency from David, although we could still have a connection. Many of the earlier spellings of the name are Draffin, so it is hard for me to tell which is the original. I still think that it is possible that we were from Monagahan County, maybe we will find the link in an earlier generation.
It is exciting enough to me that I have found another person researching this name - I thought I was the only one doing computer searches.
Could you possibly look in your Scotland information for me and see if there was a Robert Draffen who left for America about 1785? He may have been here earlier, but I can't find him. Also, for which area of Scotland is your information?
Thank you for your info. It is exciting to know that there are Draffens in Australia and New Zealand. I am from Texas. Most of my Draffens wound up in the states of Kentucky and Missouri. Good luck with the rest of your search!
