My husband and I have plans to visit County Roscommon from Mon., May 11 through Thurs., May 14, 2009. Roscommon is the county where my great-great grandfather was born. I would like advice about research centers where I should do research in Roscommon.
My great-great grandfather, Michael GALLAGHER, was born in Nov. 22, 1818, in Co. Roscommon, Ireland and he died Feb. 5, 1892 in Saratoga Township, Winona Co., Minnesota, USA. Unfortuantely, I don't know the name of the parish or townland where he was born in 1818. His father's name was Neil GALLAGHER, but I don't know whether he stayed in Ireland or moved to America. Michael GALLAGHER entered the United States about 1850. Michael lived in or near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, for awhile and by 1857 he and his family had moved to Saratoga Township, Winona Co., Minnesota where he was a farmer. He died there on Feb. 5, 1892.
The wife of Michael GALLAGHER was my Great-great grandmother, Catherine (Kate) LEONARD, who was born between 1826 and 1831 in Ireland, but I have no proof about the county where she was born. Michael and Kate were probably married in Pennsylvania before 1853.
I will appreciate advice about the most effective way I can do research in Roscommon that will help me find records about my G2 grandfather, Michael GALLAGHER. Thank you.
