Hi Brian,
Thank you for the detailed information. You know more about the Wytes than I do. It definitely sounds as it there should be a link. Your Ann Whyte is possibly the same generation as the Maria Whyte who married my gt.gt grandfather's brother William Livingston in 1854. Maybe they were sisters or cousins. I do not have enough information on the Whytes in that generation to do more than guess. William died in 1879 in Sargara and his wife Mary was present at his death.
The earliest Whyte I can see is the widow Nancy Whyte who died at Rathbarn, Coolaney in 1879 aged 85.
I think my Livingstons (various spellings) also arrived in Coolaney Sligo in around 1815-1825. No sign of them on the O'Hara estate records prior to then. They were farmers from then on but may have been in the millinery trade in Scotland before that. I do not recall any link to the name Marren in their lines though. Names we do link to are McMasters, Davis, Armstrong, Wallace, Cavanagh, Clarke & Black
I think the George Whyte, who married my gt-grandtaher's sister Ann Livingston was, a shoemaker and farmer.
Regards
Linda
