Surnames: GILROY of CORHAWNAGH, SLIGO
Searching for my grandfather, JAMES GILROY, 1872-1940. Family always said he had come from near Collooney, Sligo, before emigrating to Glasgow, Scotland. His parents are listed on his death cert as Michael Gilroy and Mary O' Flaherty previously Furey. Your message mentions CORHAWNAGH which is a townland close to the town of Collooney. I have searched Griffiths Valuation 1856-57, no Mc Cabes or Gilroys listed, also 1901 and 1911 Irish Census, no McCabes or Gilroys listed.

Apart from your Gilroy/Corhawanagh family connection , the only other such ref. I have found is a MISS NORAH GILROY who travelled on a ship from New York in 1913 where she indicated her destination as Ballisodare (close to Corhawnagh). I'm assuming Norah had connections in the area and may be related. I can forward you info if you wish
