Dear Karen,

Below is a list of many FREE searches for Ireland data. I use them all (esp. if they are free) the time.

The basics are do the CENSUS, GRIFFITHS, then TITHE to start. Many online data (searchable) sites have been updates some some links might need small fixes if they do not work.

PLEASE note what one, and what it said, and reply about broke links (so I can fix them) as I keep posting this list about every month.

PLEASE realize I do mainly Sligo.

EVERYTHING is educated guess.

Even spelling of names can be off (as many people were illiterate or just knew Irish, not English, so spelling was often done by sound -- keep that in mind ALWAYS and HOW IT SOUNDS.

AREA MATTERS MORE. RECORDS ARE DONE BY AREA (TOWNLAND), BARONY AND SO ON. MOST PEOPLE (NOT ALL) STAYED IN THE SAME GENERAL AREA OF THEIR BIRTH/FAMILY (IF THEY STAYED IN IRELAND)! Exceptions exists (marriage, death, ect..) but if they owned Land rarely did they leave it willingly as it was an agriculture based society.

History is important. Read some local History Books.

And when you have that all done (which could take time as I have been doing research or over a decade and refer back to these often) and narrowed down to one or two families you can try to move on to more specific date--
