My wife and I went to Ireland in March 1999 and spent a bit of time looking
for the baptismal record for my greatgrandfather in the National Library at
Dublin. We then also checked some marriage records, and made a quick trip
to the civil office, as well. We wanted to pass on some of the data we
gathered about various Quigley families in the Silvermines area in the late
1800s. We basically took down the info on all of the Quigleys around
Silvermines and later sorted them by parents. If we only give one date it
is either baptism date or birth date or both (We didn't note which it was
at the time). If we have two dates, the first is birth, the second baptism.
If we write "same" they are both the same date. All of the dates are 18xx.
The two names after the child's name are the sponsors (or we will use the
abbreviation "sp.") . So here goes:
Parents: Patrick Quigley and Catherine Gleeson, of Boherbury? (probably
Boherbee); married 17 feb 1847. Witnesses for marriage- Pat Leary and Mary
Winifred 6 jan 50, John Gleeson & Mary Kennedy
Catherine 2 mar 51, 3 mar 51,James Founden? & Winifred Leamy
Andrew 3 may 53, 5 may 53, James Gleeson & Winifred Ryan
John 8 july 55, same, John Quigley & Peggy Leamy
Mary 1 aug 57, same,John Collins & Bridget Ryan
Judith 11 sep 59, 12 sep 59, James Hayes & Winifred Gleeson
Laurence 29 oct 61, 30 oct 61, Pat Quigley & Johanna Ryan
James 2 may 64, same, Laurence Quigley & Ellen Malone
Patrick 26 oct 66, 27 oct 66, Laurence Quigley & Winifred Gleeson
Bridget 13 june 69, same, Andrew & Catherine Quigley
Margaret 12 jan 74, 13 jan 74, John Gleeson & Bridget Gleeson
In all the baptismal records for these children except one, the parents
were listed as living in Boherbee (with this spelling). The exception was
Winifred, where the place of residence was written "Boherbury"
The civil registry for the James Quigley of this group spells the name
"Quigly" and has the birthdate of 1 may 64, registered 7 may 64; reported
by Katherine Quigly, daughter of Patrick Quigly, Boherbee; Patrick's
occupation - farmer; ONeill Quin, registrar
Next parents:Thomas Quigley & Anne Gleeson, of Silvermines, m. 20 feb 55.
Witnesses for marriage Pat Cleary & Mary (Kennedy or Kennelly). For the
baptisms in this family until 1864, their place of residence was given as
Silvermines, then it was entered as Boherbee.
Margaret 29 mar 56, 30 mar 56, Denis Quigley & Margaret Gleeson
Denis 15 apr 58, 16 apr 58, Morgan Gleeson & Mary Quigley

Mary 7 nov 71, 8 nov 71, Matthew Gleeson & Mary Gleeson
Thomas 24 july 73, 26 july 73, Thomas Gleeson & Bridget Tobin
The civil registry for the James Quigley of this group still had the family
in Silvermines (it was the civil district), although the baptismal record
said Boherbee. It gave Thomas' occupation as Labourer. The birth was
reported by Margaret Quigley, grandmother, of Silvermines. The birthdate
concurred as 15 aug 64 and it was reported on 19 aug 64. ONeill Quin,
Next parents: James Quigley & Mary Ryan, of Silvermines, m. 26 feb 65.

Bridget 30 dec 75, 31 dec 75, (no sponsors given)
Bridget 24 may 77, 25 may 77, Edward Quigley & Honora Quigley
The baptismal records for all of these children had the family in
Ballycahill, except for the last record ( for the second Bridget), which
looks like Ballyeshill? And there's one other child listed in the baptismal
record which does not gibe: Thomas (of James Quigley & Mary Ryan, of
Silvermines) born 5 aug 1852, baptised 8 aug 1852. Sponsors Denis
Donahue(?) & Eliza Gleeson. Probably, a different set of parents with the

John 23 may 56, 25 may 56, Patrick Quigley & Catherine Gleeson
Daniel 10 july 60, 12 july 60, ( I don't have any sponsors)
These other children could also very well be John Quigley & SALLY Ryan's
kids. The dates look okay, but the mother WAS listed in the baptismal
record as SARAH Ryan, so that's why I have the births listed seperately.
Catherine 5 june 48, of John Quigley & Sarah Ryan, of Silvermines; sp.

birth was on 19 jan 1864, and was reported 5 feb 1864. The father's
occupation was given as "Publican". Thomas Hewitt, registrar.
I hope this was all clear and that it helps others along in their research.
Please pass it along to wherever you might think it could be useful. BTW,
MY relation in all this is the family of Thomas Quigley and Anne Gleeson.
My greatgrandfather was James, born 15 aug 1864. Any other help on all
this? Please send it back my way. Thanks. Rob Souweine. email@example.com
