My Grandmother was born in the Colgheen workhouse approx 1908(or sooner) to a Mary Bishop who was born 1874to 1875. After visting Ireland I have the idea that Mary Bishop was a British Citizen, and probably worked for a family who had land holdings in Ireland, and would travel with them. Then while in Ireland working ended up pregnantand was sent to the workhouse to have her child (my grandmother Christine) and was not allowed back to work with the family again. Since servants travelled with their employers in those days they didn't have papers, passports etc, so Mary Bishop could not return to England and stayed in Ireland. Does anyone know how I would go about researching from the Workhouse?I know that their was a fire in 1922 and it destroyed all the records.
