BACON

Classification: Query
Surnames: BACON, LAMBERT
My ancestor CATHERINE BACON (C. 1780-1866) was born in Ireland, and almost certainly in Ulster /Northern Ireland. She married Joseph Lambert (c.1760-1851) from the old Galloway region of Scotland, just a short distance across the North Channel from Ireland.

The family never claimed Irish ancestry, but English and Scots: Scots obviously for Joseph Lambert, and the English apparently attributed to Catherine BACON. There is an adamant legend in the family that she was related to Sir Francis BACON, who had no children; so if true, descent could have come through his father Sir Nicholas BACON, in the court of Elizabeth I. Or Micholas could have been a brother or a cousin of Catherine's ancestor.

Catherine BACON Lambert and husband Joseph Lambert lived in Edinburgh until 1832 when they emigrated to the U.S, settling in Mooers Forks, NY with their large family. If first names may be of any clue, their children's names were Michael, Andrew, John, Edward, Mary, Catherine and Margaret. There were some Bacons in that village from County Fermanagh, Enniskillen or vicinity. I do not know if they were related to Catherine.

Any information, clues, surmisings will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
