There’s quite a few Hamiltons from Co Down on this site:

There are very few records in Ireland from the 1700s and you may find it very difficult, if not impossible, to make much progress.

If the family were Presbyterian (as the majority of Hamiltons in Co Down were) then they are likely to have come to Ireland in the early 1600s as part of Hamilton & Montgomery settlement, but no records exist of the individuals who arrived, nor exactly where in Scotland they came from (though it is known that many came from Ayrshire). None of the Presbyterian churches in Comber have records for the 1700s.
