well, I must say that you have been exceedingly generous in tracking down this information for me and solving a mystery that has been bugging me!

I did look in all these records but didn't find what you found - you must be very experienced in genealogy, whereas I am just a beginner. Thanks very much indeed.

I found that on his service record, Margaret a supposed daughter is down as his next of Kin, but figured that maybe she was from their first marriage (he married again in 1883). Margaret Norton died because when Richard married again his marriage certificate says he was a Widower ....
