First Methodist Preaching House-Wades and Wakefields-John Wesley

Surnames: Wesley Wade Wakefield
John Wesly visited Galway County and included in what I could find for his visit is the First Methodist Preaching House in Athlone, this is in County Westmeath,Ireland. If you go to http://places.galwaylibrary.ie/history/chapter4.html you will find an article on John Wesley's visit. I have been trying to find Irish records for the Wade's and Wakefields-David Wakefield married Mary or Elizabeth Wade in the 1750's prior to emigration to America 1773-1783. The book Wakefield Memorial by Homer Wakefield page 216-217 lists the family history and the birthplace for David Wakefield and info about punishment of his brothers who were implicated in a plot against Catholic rule-and this makes no sense for the time period. Catholic's did not rule in this time period! However to shed some light on this if you go to http://www.irishmethodist.org/about/genealogy.php you will find that Methodists had dual membership-as both Methodists and also members of the parish church. In order to find records you need to know the church parish for pre-1845 records. Also I found landrecords for Wades and Wakefields in the 1841 landowners census. It is possible that David Wakefield did not remain on the family estate in Galway but moved to Athlone, Westmeath county, Ireland. The article on John Wesley-2nd paragraph says "At his period Mr. and Mrs. Wade of Fairfield, and Mr. David Wakefield, also a member of the parish, embraced the Gospel. . ." I am a little confused on what parish this is. Any help or info greatly appreciated. Cindy coetting57@hotmail.com
