My Great Grandfather, Thomas Michael Gibney, was born
August, 1841, in County Meath. He came to America in
1861 and immediately enlisted in the Union Army. His
rank upon enlistment was 2nd Lt. and he was a Calvary
Captain by war's end. He fought in the Battle of Wilson
Creek, Missouri, the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas and
was in the skirmish at Cane Hill, Arkansas. He later
was sent to the Cherokee Nation and was in the Battle of
Honey Creek. He married my great grandmother, Kara Euphamia Alberty of Evansville, Arkansas, in 1863. They
eloped to Van Buren, Ark. I would like to know if anyone
might know of any Gibneys in County Meath. I cannot find
anything on Thomas Gibney's parents, only his mother's
name was Elenora.
