Greetings Dan,
I looked for the Flanagan surname and its spelling variants in Wexford's Tikillin civil parish in the Griffith's Valuation (year 1853) and the Tithe Applotment Books (year 1833). I regret that I could not find this name in Tikillin for these years.
-----------------
I've gotten quite a few lookup requests so I put together this set of notes. This lookup only includes the Tikillin civil parish, which was one of 134 civil parishes in Co. Wexford. Perhaps your ancestor is in another civil parish. There is a CD-ROM index of the entire Griffith's Valuation for Wexford, and indeed all of Ireland; this CD-ROM is available in many large libraries and at many of the local Family History Centers of the LDS (Mormon) church. LDS website: <http://www.familysearch.org>
If I was able to find someone of the surname you are searching for, and you think he or she may be your ancestor, please let me know, and I can send you more info. For instance: the location of the townland, land acreage and value data, name of the landlord, and so on. Also, the Tithe Applotment Book reports that in 1833 the principal cash crop in Co. Wexford was oats.
Another point is that although the Griffith's was comprehensive in listing the heads of households of those occupying properties, many of those who had tiny land holdings were not listed in the Tithe Applotment Books. In the Tithe Applotment Books, the townlands in Tikillin were listed as a whole, whereas many of the Tikillin townlands in the Griffith's were divided by Upper and Lower designations.
Best wishes in your further searches.
