As a widower, John T Devereux married my wife's great great aunt in Wexford on 2 June 1870. He died at home in Georges Street on 31 December 1885. Whilst they had no children, my research confirms that John T Devereux had a son Richard from his first marriage. Richard died aged 24 in September 1853 and was interred in the Devereux family vault in the burial ground adjacent to the catholic church in Wexford(source: an obituary from the Wexford Chronicle that was reproduced in the Freeman's Journal).
From his first marriage, John T Devereux also had a daughter Mary Christina Devereux who married Henry Hodgens in August 1857 at the family home Rocklands in Wexford. (source: 1857 marriages - reported in New York's Irish-American newspaper.) They had several children. Mary Christina died about 1860. Her husband remarried in 1866.
John T Devereux was a prominent Irishman and public figure, both as an MP and a leading merchant of Wexford. I have found a lot of information on him via Ancestry and other sources - but I have been unable to trace the date of his first marriage, the name of the person he married, nor the date when their daughter Mary Christina was born.
Can anyone signpost me to some potential lines of enquiry?
