My Great grandfather was richard samuel webster from Moneycross, Gorey, co. Wexford. He and his brother were placed in an orphanage after the death of their mother, when their father remarried. Both brothers emigrated to Canada. My great grandfather married a canadian woman (of anglo irish ancestery I think) and they returned to Ireland. They lived first in Dublin where they had 8 children of which my grandmother was the youngest born in 1901. Does this tie in with any of your findings?

I am searching for a Garrett O'Connor born around 1827 in Ireland, military records from the New Zealand war say he was born in Bannow Wexford he was 37 years of age when he sign up to serve with the 4th Waikato Regiment he came to New Zealand on the swiftsure with his wife Julia O'Connor nee ryan and their four children leaving from Melborne Australia arriving in Auckland New Zealand in 1864. Their eldest son was William O'Connor ?-1902 John O'connor 1851-? James O'Connor 1856-1923 killed in railway accident fourth child dates unknown. Both James and John were born in Paddington Sydney. Both William and James were buried in Symonds Street Cemetery NZ However I cannot find a date of death for Garrett o'connor i do know Garrett died before 1902. I also cannot find a marriage date for him and Julia in New zealand or Australia or imigration to Australia for Julia of Garrett. Garrett was found in New Zealand under different spellings such as Garratt, Garrald and O'Conor. The last record I can find for Garrett was 1870 for rates on his land I have search New Zealand graveyards and birth death and marriages and found nothing. I am wondering where he disappear to. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi there,

Are you related to Betty in Boulder? She and I have been in touch for some time.

Try Irish World Family History: www.irish-roots.ie for your Byrons. They have private databases for nearly all counties and records that can't be found elsewhere online. Be warned, don't do too many searches without out buying a record or they'll suspend your account! Happy to re-activate it if you phone or write but it's a pain.

You can obtain records for the Londonderry Ruths and Tyrone and Londonderry Nixons there, although I have parish church records for the Nixon too, which I'd be happy to share with you.

Kind regards - Kerrie

I saw this message and though you could help me .Because Kehoe is spelled different ways I get confused on what is correct spelling. I have a Daniel Kehoe or Kahoe, Or I have seen it spelled Keogh. My Daniel Kehoe I know married Bridget Jacob in Wexford Co Ireland . I am not sure of date but I figured They were born in Ireland in 1809 or 1806 and some where around 1830 they must have wed iN Bridget's obituary has he born Wexford County, and some of her children are buried there I don't have names. but There is a MAry and Margeret and Jane anyway they came to america around 1860's. I think possibly maybe came though Canada. but not sure . Mary Kehoe married a John Ryan and Margaret married a John Burns . And it seems they married in Ireland . Two children of John Ryan and Mary born Ireland and one born in N.Y. Possible Buffalo. I was wonder I am having trouble finding info on the Kehoe's I do know they moved to Wales because two sons born in Wales. I know Mary Kehoe was born either 1835 or 1837 depend on what census you look at. Do you know where I can write to get info? Because of Having trouble finding any document it is hard.
If you could help it would be appreciated

Couple last points.
Per the 1861 Hamilton census, Ellen Walsh Kehoe was born in 1806.
Per a 1923 Border Crossing of Lawrence J. Kehoe to Detroit, Michigan (he was 78 at the time!), he claims to have arrived in Quebec in 1853. So, the father James may have died in Wexford prior to their trip over.

Hello Annette,
I very much appreciate you taking the time to check these folks out. I wrote to the Wexford Co. Genealogical Center in Tagoat this week with hopes they can match these guys up. A couple of points:
1) I found Ellen (Walsh) Kehoe on the 1861 Hamilton, Ontario census along with children Lawrence (b:1843), Edward (b:1844), Mary (b:1842), and my G-Grandfather James (b:1848). So we now know she made the trip over.
2) I also found another daughter, Ellen (b:1847), was married on Sept. 13, 1877 in Toronto to Francis Morrow.
3) Lawrence's middle name was Joseph, so maybe there's something to the first/middle name switch.
4) The oldest son I've found so far is John, born about 1836 or 37, so maybe that is their Marriage you found?

I'm awaiting other Church info from St. Mary's in Hamilton to continue this puzzle.
Thanks again,
Tom

Actually Valerie, you can see from the 1911 census online that a Robert Chapman & wife Catherine & five children were living in Slade with his in-laws who were called Lambert. One of the children is a daughter called Catherine aged 10. So are you sure the mother's name was Margaret? Not Catherine Lambert? Or perhaps it wasn't Slade village itself they lived in?

Hi Annette all help welcome.
In pilot I found Michael Jones married Gorey Wexford 1852 and Margaret Oughton married Gorey Wexford 1852 .
That confirmed what we thought so a accepted that.
An Oughton relation from a different line contacted me yesterday and said they had from family notes
John Richard b.6/23/1821 married Williamina Latham 8/23/1856 his siblings were
a) Minnie m.. Jones children:Richard Jones MD who married a Carrie
b) Mattie m. Jones, no issue
c) Elizabeth (Eliza) m. Peter Lee in 1834. apothecary at Gorey Their children were: Jane m. Parker. Henry and Edward P.MD
Minnie I know is Margaret that married Michael and her mother was Margaret.
I wonder if Mattie would be Matthew as a Matthew Oughton b Gorey 1824 perfect match for John Richards little brother.
Our John Jones we are sure b 1855 have a death card
And Richard we know b 1860 from Dr records and wedding cert from church.(not in Ireland)

With the Oughton inscriptions
(Only 3 Oughten/Oughton Inscriptions, Old Gorey with the names 35)Dorathea Oughton w/o John, son William
152) Ellon w/o Matthew of Ballyrahan.)
Does that mean married names for Dorathea and Ellon were Oughton? And any hint on dates.?
My American distant relo has 3 John Oughton’s (2nd birth date 1746)in a row before it changed to 3 John Richard Oughton’s in a row.
Reading all those names in your 2nd message reminded me of a note that read “Richard Jones’ Great Grandfathers son was Sir William Jones Governor of the navel Knight of Windsor”
This has not lead me to any usable genealogy at all! Accept to confirm William is a family name.
But maybe Larry may find something.
Thank you for the information Annette and I will contact you direct for the rest.
Della
I have most of his line as he is my Great Grandfather.
We think our Michael was a farmer from the leases we have found.
Following the lines of names the family had I am betting on William for a father's name as John was Margaret's fathers name and Richard her maternal grandfathers name.
I know this isn't much help to you but maybe someone out there has some information that can help.
I see you are a Jones is William family?
Della
Australia

I did finally find the Sheridan Listings in Cantwell's with these spellings Sheridan, Sheriden and Sheredan.
Most were quite old, I checked several but was looking for a listing for Sheridan that then said - see Murphy but none did. There were of course Murphy's in almost all of the 13 Sheridan pages.I noticed in the Directories of Ireland, several Sheridan', Dr. Michael Joseph, Selskar St. Wexford, Rev. Nicholas Thomas Sheridan St. Peter's College. The Reverand had some properties which paid him rents.
There were also a farmer Nicholas Sheridan, in Killag Farming Division and a Nicholas Murphy a farmer in the Killinick Div.
One of the memorials was a Serjt.(Sergeant?) and had a daughter Susan died young.
AC

I hope you don't mind my jumping in here - not family but was interested in the Lanark Co. connection and Beckwith
a my husband's family came from Wicklow to Beckwith. I have done a lot of research in Wicklow and have quite a few resources to help in searching in Ireland.
There is a birth and marriage website that is no longer operating but the database of births and marriages-with names is still there. It is hoped that this database will be online soon. You can contact me for the website at
codeannette@yahoo.ca
In the above mentioned database is the following:
There were 9 William Jones born in Ireland eg. are
1732, 1789, 1841, 1849, 1857 and six marriages but they don't start till 1838.
17 John Jones, 1734, 1738, 1745, 1780, 1823, 1833, 1842, 1847x2 a jump to 1873.
9 Richard Jones, 1743, 1799, 1844, 1846, and two marriages

I did not find the marriage of Michael 1852 but there were very few Michael's, 1758, 1834, 1843.

Margaret Oughton no births 1 marriage 1835 Thomas Wright

There are lists including the 1818 list for persons leaving Wexford/Carlow/Wicklow area from New Ross to Canada on the website www.theshipslist.com as well there is a search component for passengers and also Australia ships of course there are not a lot compared to the amount of people who left.

There are 18 Jones Memorial Inscriptions in Wexford.
I am not permitted to put these on the message board but I will look through them for references - do you have the names of William's children in Canada as that may point to his parents names.

Only 3 Oughten/Oughton Inscriptions, Old Gorey with the names 35)Dorathea Oughton w/o John, son William
152) Ellon w/o Matthew of Ballyrahan.

The website of the Latter Day Saints www.familysearch.org
now has a new PILOT program which may help you locate births of these persons. You can use it for Australia and Canada. The main website also has 1880 census CA,UK,US but a bit late for someone immigrating in 1818.

I would certainly be interested in my own right about any William Codd or Code families in Beckwick, Lanark Co.

Annette Code
'genealogy for fun'

There are gravestone inscriptions for Lacy (3) and Lacey (4)in Wicklow. There were two Catholic Martin Lacey's born in Wicklow 1852 and 1861 named Martinus Lacey.
I would need to send these to an e-mail address.

I did check one passenger record dated July 11, 1890 a Martin Lacey from Co. Galway to Boston. Almost all these passengers indicated Co.Galway so the ship left from Galway with 78 Galway residents or just the ship left from Galway it is not clear.

Offaly (Kings Co.) no record of this name in Offaly. in the Griffiths Valuation 1853. No Martin in Wicklow although there are 30 Lacey's resident there.

In the 1881 & 1894 Directories for Ireland a Martin Lacey appears in Bagnalstown, Carlow as a blacksmith, The Offaly resource on www.censusfinder.com I tried the www.igp-web.com/Carlow website has a good number of resources.

Annette
'genealogy for fun'
The General Registry Office in Dublin is where you apply for certified copies. They are online www.groireland.ie
I thought you could buy it online, however, just recently I was told you download a form.

The Directories were like the yellow pages in the phone book. The first page had a description of the town or village and where located, post office then listings for the Nobility, Gentry, the professions and merchants, later ones had farmers listed by area. That is why you can find a couple of listings for the same person in one volumn. Sometimes more if they have a separate home listing as well.

You can see some examples of directories by going to www.failteromhat.com they have I believe Slater's 1834 Directory and 1824 Pigots, but no where I have found where every years directories are available on-line mine come from a subscription.

AC

Annette

The 1798 Rebellion Claims has all counties but only 1 claim in the name of Lacey. That is in Wexford a Patrick Lacey, an ironmonger, shop goods and iron 26.1.4
so maybe the Martin Lacey 1881 in Bagnalstown is related??
There is no address for the Wexford listing so don't know if it is in the border area of Wexford, Carlow and Wicklow or not.

I'm off to the UK tomorrow and have four days at the National Library in Dublin to finish up my Fitzwilliam Emigration from Coolattin up to Jim Rees's list from 1846.
AC

Hi,
I know you posted your query on the Cousins family from Wexford quite a few years ago and I do not know if you were successful in tracing them. In case you did not find the information you were looking for, I think the following link may help you.

http://www.cousinsfamily.co.uk/wexford/Descendants%20of%20Pa...

Best wishes,

Michelle

Valerie,
I have done extensive research into the Chapmans (and Jackmans) in Co. Wexford, but have not concentrated on the Fethard line as I don't believe it intersects with my line.

None the less I can tell you that the name Robert is very unusual in Chapman lines so you may wish to hook up with this researcher http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/community/posts/597382/defaul... who also has a Robert from the Fethard area in her line.

When you say she was born in Wexford, do you mean Co. Wexford or Wexford town?

I don't understand why you think you need the name of the mother to order the birth certificate - this is not required at the GRO Ireland. If you go to the pilot familysearch.org site you can get the ref number to use on the GRO application which makes the turnaround much quicker - generally about 10 days.

If this works I'd be interested in knowing who her parents turn out to be.

Great info again. Thanks. Unfortunately you cannot order a certificate from the GRO in Ireland online- you can download the form and pay by card through the post but only by credit card or euros. They say that they are trying to find a secure server to enable online transactions....
I have a sneaking suspicion that the Murphys wouldn't have had a headstone as I think they weren't that well off- Joseph didn't have one in England nor did his 'guardians' the Rileys. They're all a big mystery! I think I am going to be stuck until I get my hands on that birth record....
I won't give up!
Thanks again
Liz
