I am at an impasse in tracing my DOWNIE ancestry from Dundee back beyond James DOWNIE (born c 1800-?) and Margaret BUTTER (born 1800-?) and their children John Butter DOWNIE (1829-1881) and James Butter DOWNIE (1831-?). Henry Adam BUTTER (1881-?) is the great-nephew of James DOWNIE's wife, Margaret BUTTER, and thus the reference to "his cousin Henry DOWNIE" in AB's (escocia7) post of 27 Aug 2012 is of particular interest as it is probable that Henry DOWNIE's ancestry converges with my DOWNIE Scottish ancestry.
Any information which would enable me to reliably trace this Henry DOWNIE's ancestry would be greatly appreciated.
