I am searching for information on James Bell Finnie(Feney)b.1828 and Helen Mitchell, who were married in Brechin, 2 Oct 1854. At that time he is recorded as being a forester at Leighton Hill and she was the daughter of David Mitchell of the Upper Tenements of Brechin. His parents are said to be Patrick Finnie and Christina Lowe. James,Helen, and their children were part of a group of immigrants, recruited in Aberdeenshire in 1873, and settled in New Brunswick,Canada; establishing what is called the "Scotch Colony" at Kintore and Kincardine in Victoria County. Among the other immigrants were William Paul, b.29 Aug 1842; James Paul, b.6 Mar 1845; David Lowe, b.11 July 1834; John Bain, b.1821; William Bain, b.1846; and their families. It is my family's recollection that these people were all related. I think William Bain,b.1846; and his children,Agnes E., b.1873; Elizabeth P.,b.1875; William,b.1877;and Jane A.,b.1879; may have returned to Scotland, as some of the settlers did, after the death of his wife Margaret in 1880. I have not been able to find any trace of him or his children, in Canada or the U.S.A., after the 1881 census.I would like to know the ancestors of James and Helen, their relationship to the Bain's, Paul's, and Lowe's, and if they had siblings who remained in Scotland.
