Very happy to hear from another KIRKLAND searcher. My James Kirkland emigrated in 1834 on the Brig Perseverance from Greenock. He brought with him his wife Ann McCracken Kirkland and their two sons, Hugh age 20 and Thomas age 15. The Kirklands settled in Kalamazoo County, Michigan in an area known then as Gull Prairie. James died about a year later. The two sons acquired a substantial amount of land that they farmed. Hugh married Jennet Flockhart who came to Michigan from Peterhead, Aberdeen. They had two sons, James and Henry. James became a Presbyterian minister. Henry was a
"log roller" in the lumber camps of the state. James is my great grandfather.
