Dear Ellen, yes. The US census information always identified Jane Hamilton Allen as being from Northern Ireland, but her death certificate says she was born in 'Air, Scotland.' I am assuming that's Ayr, and since it was so specific, with a city name, I believe it may be a good clue. Her father's name was Hamilton and her mother was a McReynolds--I know nothing about the history of Scotland and Northern Ireland in terms of migration, but it looks to be very plausible. Any thoughts on where or how to look?
