I know this is 10 year old post but Im wondering where the evidence is for Thomas Halberts father being Robert Halbert.
A Thomas Halbert was baptised in 1814 in Gateshead (just across the bridge from Newcastle upon Tyne) at aged 8 making his birth about 1806. On the same day another Halbert was baptised - Sarah Halbert. Both are listed as having different parents.
Thomas father is listed as Thomas Halbert and mother is listed as Sarah.
In the records there are no mentions of other Halberts being born to Thomas and Mary nor any other combination. The book that was written and included information about Thomas relied on 60 year old memories of Thomas.
The notes for the book reveal more about how the author has interpreted the data he has been given. It says nothing exact has been handed down about the place of his birth or the date. It says english on his fathers side and scottish on his mothers. The author says that Thomas told his acquaintances that he had two brothers and two sisters at home. One of his sisters was a Mrs Carrott who kept in contact with Thomas and some of his nephews came out to visit him
Some more modern books including the one about Wi Pere utilised existing sources of information about Thomas.
Has anyone been able to find more info about Thomas since this thread started?
