I am also researching Thom/Duff in Stevenston. David L.Thom was born29/9/1811 to Alex. Thom and Susin Easdale. They had ten children that I know about. I have details about 5 of them, their marriages and children. I also believe that David L. Thom was married twice. The first time to Jean Raeside and they had two children Alex b. 1837 and Ann b. 1840, before marrying Mary Duff in 1851 when he was forty. In the 1861 census David Thom and Mary Duff had with them Alex.24, Susan 9, Mary 7 Jane 5 and David 1. I will pass on to you all the details I have of this family.

I am researching my wife's family history and followed the trail to Stevenston. My wife's G,G, Grandfather was John Jack Park born in Stevenston on 11/03/1851 who married a Mary Thom born in Stevenston on 04/11/1853. They had at least three children, Mary, Jean, and William before emigrating to Australia c. 1890.

John Jack Park's parents were William Park, b. 1827 in Stevenston, and Elizabeth Jack, b. 1825 in Kilwinning. This couple had at least eleven children between 1849 and 1872.

Mary Thom's parents were David Landsbourough Thom, b. 1811 in Stevenston, and Mary Duff, b. 1826 in Stevenston. This couple had at least four children.

I have some information but would like to gather more about this branch of the family, so I would be grateful for any help.

Many thanks

Chris

This is a late reply to your message but I wondered if you were able to find more information on the Park/Thom connection. My ancestor Jean Park Gilmour (b 21 May 1853 Stevenston, d 1929 Terre Haute, IN, USA) was the daughter of Isaac Park (b 29 June 1828 in Stevenston, death ?) and Margaret Thom (b 1829 in Stevenston, death ?). Isaac and Margaret were married 18 Sept 1847 in Stevenston. Jean had a brother named Benjamin Park (b 30 May 1851 Stevenston) but I have been unable to find much more information. Any help on this family line and connections would be appreciated.

David Landborough Thom was a brother of my G.G.G. Grandfather Alexander Thom (b.1814, d.1865). Alexander Thom (1785-1851) and Susan Esdale were my G.G.G.G.Grandparents.
As far as I know, DL Thom's children by Jean Raeside were Alexander (1835-1888) and Ann (1839-?).
His children by Mary Duff were Susanna (1851-?), Mary (1853-?), Jane (1855-?) and David (1860-?).
I would appreciate being able to compare notes on the family tree with you.

Regards,

Jeff Thom

Alexander Thom and Susin Esdale are the Thoms that my husband's line go back to,through their son William b. 1830. His brothers and sisters I have as Jean 1810, Alexander 1814, Janet 1818, Eliz 1822, David L. 1811, Mary 1816, Susan 1820, Margaret 1827 and Susanna 1832. Which of their children do you go back to?
David Landsborough Thoms illeg. son Alexander married 1864 Mary Hopkins he died 1888 and his sister Ann m. 1858 James McKillop son of Donald McKillop and Catherine Rowan. I also have the same children as you for David L. Thom and Mary Duff: Susanna 1851 m. John Clerk, Mary b. 1853 m. John Jack Park and Jean or Jane b. 1855 m. George Park, his brother David b. 1860 I have very little details of.
I would be very happy to pass on to you any of my Thom information as I have it on a Word document (9 pages) I can send it to you as an attachment if that is okay with you. It would be interesting to compare your information with mine.

Thank you for your message.
My line is through Alexander (1814 - 1865) who married Jane Reid on 4/4/1834.

I would be pleased to receive your information on MS Word to compare with my notes. When sending your attachment, if it has anything else on it other that text, could you send it to me at my other email address: jpethom@iprimus.com.au instead. If it is text only, this email address is fine.

Many thanks for that. Once I've compared notes, I'll send you a copy of what I have. Currently, I have all my data on a special Family Tree software program and will need to figure out how to transfer the data over to MS Word for you.

Best regards,

Jeff Thom.

I have recently started researching my Family Tree and have just read your message. I note that you are related to David Landsborough Thom (b. 1811) who was an older brother of my g.g.Grandfather Alexander Thom (b. 1814, d. 1865, m. Jane Reid). Their parents (my g.g.g.Grandparents) were Alexander Thom (b. 1785, d. 1851, m. Susan Esdaile 1809).

If you have any further information regarding this branch of the Thom family tree, I would mind comparing notes with you.

Cheers,

Jeff Thom.

Hi Chris,
I just ran across your message I think your William Park (b1827) may be a younger brother of my George Park b 1820 in Stevenston. Have you found anything further back than William? My George's parents were William Park and Agnes Chalmers. Let me know if there's a link and I can give you George's descendants.

Dave
