Read your message under Ayrshire Scotland Queries. We are also researching the name McKergo - my husbands grandmother, Jane McKergo.

Jane was born in Cardiff in 1873 but her parents married in Stranraer, Ayr on 24/11/1859. Her mother was Jane Summerfield and they had 4 children that we have proved, Sarah born Glasgow 1868 - David (1870), James Thomas (1877) and Jane, born in Cardiff. There are also two more children who seem to have the same parents, Janet born Wigtown 21/4/1864 and James born 25/8/1866 in Stranraer - we have no documentary evidence of a connection but they weren't with the family in Cardiff on 1881 or 1891 census. We have also found a David McKergo who married Jean Cameroon 5/9/1848 in Dunoon & Kilm, Argyll but do not know if this is the same David as he would be only around 16 at the time of his marriage.

Jane married John Erick Jansen in Cardiff 25/12/1897 and one of the witnesses was William Francis James McKergo, the other Elizabeth Wahlquist.

We would be interested to hear if this fits in with your research and copy documentary evidence to you if this is the case.
