I'm tracking ancestors :

James Aird / Mary Aitken m 7 jun 1820

their son John Robert Aird, immigrated to Wisconsin in 1853, is my ancestor. There were also 10 other siblings that I can find in the OPR : Elizabeth, Hugh, Ivie, James, Jean, Marion, Mary, Thomas, William, Robert.

I can't find, definitively where James Aird or Mary Aitken was born.

Also one of his siblings may have gone to Australia. Not Sure?

Ring any bells with anyone? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if you are still searching for your family, but I came across your post during some research of my own.

I have an extensive tree of James Aird's family. Perhaps we could share information.

James Aird was born 3rd June 1796 in Glasgow, Scotland. He was the son of John Aird and Jean Orr.

He lived and married in Sorn, which is a village about 29 miles south-west of Glasgow.

He had 13 children in all. John Robert did indeed emigrate to WI in 1853 as did his sister Margaret Baillie Aird who was married to John Richmond Lambie. They went to live in Kaukauna, Wisconsin (sp?). Two of John Robert's nephews emigrated to Queensland, Aus. and one of his niece's emiagrated to Vancouver, Can.

Please find attached a picture of James Aird's gravestone in Sorn cemetary. The two people in the photo are my mother and grandmother. James Aird is my gran's gt. gt. grandfather.

We are descended from his 7th child - William Aird who was the innkeeper in Sorn.

Thank You. Yes I'm still researching the line and had, in fact, ID'd John Aird and Jean Orr as potiential parents...unconfirmed though.

I've had John Aird and Jean Orr down for a while. They are definitely the parents as I have a copy of James's birth entry in the OPR. You can make that confirmed.

Looking at your info, can you be sure you have the correct Jean Orr? I've had difficulty finding any marriage information on her and John Aird.

If it is the right Jean Orr then we can easily get back to the 1600s. Let me know.

PS. That makes us seventh cousins! Weird.

I have the marriage to Jean Orr in the OPR but no further info on Jean. I looked through my research and saw that I couldn't find anything definitive on Jean Orr indicating where she came from.

Do you have other ideas and where to go from here?

Do you have a date and place for the marriage? I only have it from James Aird's birth OPR.

If you have the OPR record of the marriage then I might be able to take it a step further back through Scotland's People website or through a visit to the local area.
