Classification: Census
This is a monthly update of the 1841 Ayrshire Free Census Project. This project is part of the larger UK Free Census Project - an Internet-based 'free-to-view' database that will enable researchers to view details of UK Censuses between the years 1841 and 1891 and have the ability to search by surname across census years and counties.
The Ayrshire project was launched in April and to date we have 27 volunteers working on transcribing 29 parishes. In addition, 4 parish transcriptions have been completed and are currently being cross-checked for accuracy.
Volunteer transcriber's are still needed. All you need to take part is a computer and access to a microfilm or microfiche reader. We supply everything else including the film/fiche and the software. This project is a global online venture designed for ordinary family historians wherever they are, who would like to make a contribution to our great hobby.
