Am seeking info on Robert Boyd Wilson, son of John Wilson and Jean Boyd b. 1791 in Newmilns. He married Marrion Lyon 1815 in Newmilns. My husband and I will be in Scotland later this month and plan to stop in Newmilns. He descends from William Lyon Wilson (son of Robert and Marrion) who settled in Connecticut in 1834. Hoping to meet some cousins!
Lynn Wilson

Hi Lynne - I have tried to post reply earlier, but am technologically challenged. I live 7 miles away from Newmilns - My family are all Wilsons (as per my middle name). I have traced backwards, but only in a direct line - and we were porlific breeders - going through Moses Wilson and a few Hans Wilsons - there is also Agnes M/S Wilson - I would be delighted to meet you when you are here to campare notes. Regards Stuart (also to any other USA etc Wilson-ites who are visiting - other names Brown, Wales, Clark

Hi! I am sorry that I didn't see your mesage in time to meet you, We just arrived back from Scotland and had a delightful day exploring the Irvine Valley on Wednesday of this week. We stopped at the Niceae Coffe Shop, if you know where that is, and looked about the Loudoun Parish Kirkyard and also the cemetery up on top of the hill. What a view! Talk about a "mountain top" experience. I didn't see any headstones of what I knew to be family members, but just being in that lovely area of Ayrshire was quite moving. We defintely want to return someday, and perhaps get a chance to check out the Dick Institute in Kilmarnick. We would love to meet you, too, and to compare notes. Are you any kin to the Wilsons who owned the J and J Wilson Lace Mill?

Your Cousin-Wannabe,
Lynn

There is ANOTHER Church - it is a ruin in some trees near the big roundabout for turning to Galston village. I have been speaking to an elderly historian - the one that wrote the booklet on the Newmilns weaving strike and he toldme that that is THE old burial ground for Newmilns people, although quite a way out from the outskirts. There is a headstone for Wilson's there. I will get further details after weekend. And sadly, no, I am not related to the owners of the mill - just to (as a census described) the paupers. Regards Stuart

The names on the stone in the ruined church were Mary Frew and Robert Wilson, the dates I noted were 1847, 1857 and 1954 - but only tapped it into mobile as I was in a hurry. I will be going back soon if you want accurate details. Meanwhile you may like to check this out http://www.headstones.freeserve.co.uk/newmilns.htm
The site owner says he will send image copies down net for free (click on 'home'), so ANYONE reading this please do not abuse the man's goodwill by "over"asking. - Thanks

Hello again - I am still researching the family of John Wilson - from J & J Wilson in Newmilns or Mairs or Neills or other related families and would like to connect back up with anyone else researching this. Thanks, Susanne
