Looking for information about William and Sarah Fenwick, birthdates, parents, siblings etc. William was born ca 1849 in Morpeth, Northumberland, he was a gardener. Together with Sarah, he had a daughter called Hannah Orange Fenwick (unsure where the Orange name comes from), born in 1872. In the Census of 1881, William was a widower, so Sarah died sometime between 1872 and 1881. I do not know anything more about Sarah. I have found William and Hannah in the 1891 Census also, but have not found him after that. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi: My ggrandmother was Mary Ann McCann that married Robert Coulter in 1876. She lists her father as William Jess and I believe that her mother was Mary McCleave. I am not sure of this - but Mary Jess of Ballykeel is recorded as being present at the birth of many of their children. My grandfather was their youngest, Richard Grubb Coulter. They lived in Drumlough, Down. Do you know anything about this story? I have a gut feeling that Mary Ann McCann was illegitimate or from a first marriage of Mary McCleave.

The Voluntown Campbells seem to be of the wrong immigration timeline. I did find a snippet of a source that I am waiting to hear back on from the Clan Campbell Society of North America. It is from their journal, citation as follows:

“Ancestry of Major General Wendell Campbell-Carter and his Sister Anne Campbel Smith”Journal of the Clan Campbell (1987) v14-16, p38
...”is son, Hugh, went back to Scotland and returned with three sons, Andrew of Mansfield, Connecticut, David, and Charles, ... There is a theory that Hugh Campbell's second son David might be the same as the first member of the family on ..."

----

This David Campbell lived and died in Hampden County, Massachusetts, up the river valley from Mansfield. I am related to Andrew and, by way of descent, Peter, Horace, James Martin Campbell, and Katherine Jane Campbell.

Hi Linda I can trace my Glen's back to Glenlora Scotland about 1560 to David Glen. However we wonder if this line could be attached to the group in Ayr Scotland which is where Bar is because traditionally our Glen's came from Bar, Scotland. The problem for us is to see if this correct. The names on your list are very very interesting...for we find many of those intermarrying we believe or at least interacting with our Glenn. Thank you for responding...Can you tell me a little about your own Glen line?

Debbie-
I'm now wondering if the "Cowsa" name I gave might have been Cowan...?

Ref to this thread:
McKELVIE,MUIR
http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr...

2nd post refs the 1841 census for Riccarton, and in the household there is "Margaret Cowan female 1 b Ayrshire"

I also believe it would be a good bet the father of John McKelvie (m. Agnes Muir McKelvie) would likely have been named "Francis." - He's married to this Cowan/Cowsa.
In turn, I'm thinking, this Francis' father and mother may have been the John & Janet (Buntine) McKelvie's of Dundonald, Scotland.

And in step with the 1st born son named after every other generation, my grandfather (J.Ward MacKelvie b. 1890, youngest of 5) - his oldest brother is John Robert McKelvie.

So, looking at 1st sons born going backwards:
John Robert McKelvie b.1876-1948
Francis McKelvie b. Ayr ~ 1840-1891
John (& Agnes) McKelvie b. Riccarton 1807-?
(possible) Francis (& ? Cowan/Cowsa) McKelvie b. Dundonald 1779
(possible) John (Janet Buntine) McKelvie of Dundonald(?), Scotland.

I still can't figure out if Thomas (Janet Muir) and John (Agnes Muir) were brothers though. I suspect there may have been more children of the John (Janet Buntine) McKelvie's and they maybe were cousins instead.

Tom MacKelvie
Hi There,
Although I can't find a link for this couple I think this could be a possible for the parents of Mary McIntyre.
There was a Daniel McIntyer/McIntyre m Janet White in Kilwinning,Ayrshire 9th August 1823, and although I can't find any children that's not uncommon for the time.
I found an 1861 Census return for a Thomas Shaw and wife Mary in Kilwinning, listing 5 children -John,Daniel,Thomas,James and Marion,
but they had already lost a daughter in 1858 aged 3yrs called Janet.
So if Thomas's parents were John Shaw and Janet Thomson, I wondered if they had followed with traditional Scottish Naming.
1st boy named for Fathers Father, that would be John.
2nd boy named for Mothers Father, that would be Daniel.
1st girl named for Mothers Mother, that would be Janet.(which would satisfy BOTH Grans).

Not my clearest ever explanation, hope you can follow it.
Thought it was worth a mention.

ps
Young Thomas born in BRAZIL so already far travelled, and no record of family after death of young James in 1864 to Hydrocephalus.
Best Wishes
Louise

Hi Michelle,

Possibly a connection.

My ggg grandfather was James Boyce who married Elizabeth Hamilton.
My gg grandfather, also James, son of the above, was born 1825 in Donaghadee, Co Down. He married Mary Dickson/Dickenson in 1845 in Donaghadee.

There is Hugh Boyce born 1830 In Donaghadee- parents Hugh Boyce and Elizabeth Hamilton.

Did James die after James was born and Elizabeth Hamilton remarry ?- it was custom for a brother to marry his brother's widow

Have also seen Hugh Boyce- parents ????? and Elizabeth Hamilton
Were there two Elizabeth Hamiltons ?- a common name back then.

Hugh, born 1830, has his father as Hugh Boyce on his marriage certificate- he married Jane Murray in 1849. Naming patterns of Hugh and Jane's children suggest Hugh's father was in fact James- but how reliable?

Both James and Hugh went to Ayshire in Scotland. Hugh seems to have stayed in Dalry, while James
and his sons worked in various iron mines in Ayrshire.

I guess we will never know- intriguing.

Regards,
David

I have a family tree my grandfather did in ~ 60's-70's.
It was missing a few first names, but with the info in this thread I've filled in a few blanks. - Thanks!

I show a McKelvie (male) married to Cowsa (female)- Scotland, as the parents of (John) McKelvie who was married to Agnes Muir.

John & Agnes McKelvie's chilren (3 shown):
1) Agnes McKelvie, m. to Luke Simcox, coalminer, Alexis, IL.
2) John McKelvie 1845-1920, Farmer, Yankton, SD m. to Minnie Porter. Children: Agnes, Florence, Clark, Charlie, Marie, Carol, Anna
3) Frances McKelvie b. Ayr 1840 d. Esmond SD 1891, m. to Janette Gibb Bainbridge b.9-30-50(?) Scotland, d.1921 CO. Children: John Robert 1876-1948 (Mary Jones) d.1950, Anna Russel McKelvie 1877-1961 (Tom Davis 1873-1950), Nicholas Bainbridge McKelvie 1879-1920 (Daisy Terpening?) d.1958, Frances Emerson McKelvie b.1885 Esmond, SD (Kate Hoge), J. Ward MacKelvie b.1890 Esmond, SD - d.1985 Denver, CO (Ethel Lang Leonard)

Plus more generations below the above.

Also shows Agnes Muir's sister (Janet) Muir married to (Thomas) McKelvie (parents unknown) and their 2 children:
1) Mike McKelvie m. to Mae ___ of Alexis, IL. Children: John, Archie, George.
2) Janet McKelvie m. to Jack Simcox, coalminer, Alexis, IL.

It appears 2 McKelvie's (males, unknown if related) married the 2 Muir daughters (Agnes & Janet).
Then a generation later, 2 Simcox's (male & again unknown if related) married 2 cousins of the McKelvie/Muir lines.

No known family or indication he moved back to Scotland.
•	Mary Pearson Hutton - August 29th, 1903; family Bible records indicate Mary stayed in the Ayr area of Scotland; married James Boyle McKnight in 1942 in Ayr (at or about the age of 39); James McKnight dies in 1964 at age of 61; I cannot find a death certificate for Mary or any other record of her existence in Scotland
Hi Arti76

This past week I have begun tracing the McGilchrist line.

From Agnes Arnot(nee McGilchrist) death cert I found out her parents were John McGilchrist -farmer- and Margaret Millar in Baldernock. I was able to get their 1794 marriage OPR from SP.

I also found on SP an OPR Birth for a John McGilchrist in 1750 in Baldernock which would have made him 43 when he married but not unusual. But have been unable to find a birth for Margaret Millar or death certs for them both.

On the family search site I found 4 children listed for them including my Agnes but no John, so at this point not sure where the John and Ann McGilchrist family fits in.

Quite a coincidence that in 1881 a McGilchrist family is living at Arnothill Gardens, Falkirk. :-)

Many thanks
Chris is NZ at 12.40 am!
