Peter Gunn was born 1812 and grew up on the family farm "Tacher" at Wick, Caithness. His parents had moved to "Tacher" from Sutherlandshire. Peter became a master of the Gaelic tongue at Edinburgh Universty and was ordained by the Prebyterof Caithness 11.08.1841. He arrived in the Port Phillip Colony (now the State of Victoria in Australia) in 1842.
Peter Gunn was his own foreman of works in the building of Scots Church, a bluestone Church, at Campbellfield about 9 miles north of Melbourne wich was opened in 1855. This Church is modelled on the Church in Caithness that Peter Gunn gave his first sermon after being ordained. It is built in the shape of a cross. The bell (weighing 386 lbs) in this Church has a clapper in the shape of a Scotch Thistle (and the only one of its kind) which was sent out to Peter Gunn by the people of Caithness.
I would appreciate any and all information on the Church Peter Gunn conducted his first sermon at all those years ago. Peter and his family are buried in the small cemtery in Scots Church grounds. Peter died in 1864.
Any information would be more than appreciated and I thank each and everyone in anticipation.
