Hiya...just came across this and some other posts from about 10 years ago...not sure if you are still researching this family as your query is quite old as well. I also have a Christina Nicol & John Elder in my tree so might be the same one as Donald has. John Elder is my great grand uncle. He was born on 5/2/1856 at Reay, parents were John Elder & Catherine Mackay. Christina Nicol was also born approx 1856,father George Nicol, mother Ann (not sure of maiden surname though). John & Christina married in Reay on 2/6/1882 and lived there until Johns parents both died (1889 & 1890), they then moved to Edinburgh (they are showing in the 1891 census in Edinburgh) and had 7 children.John died in Edinburgh 27/8/1913 and Christina died 30/7/1948, also in Edinburgh.
