I am descended from Sharps, Hunters, Sneddon, Fife from
Clackmannan. Also from a Margaret Bruce who married a John Short. Are the Bruces in Clackmannan from the Bruces of Kennet ? That is what I understand. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same surnames in my Clackmannanshire ancestry - Fife, Sharp, Hunter, Snaddon - and according to what I have read on the Web - the Snaddon connection leads back to John Short and Margaret Bruce (married in Clackmannan in 1687) and numerous sites say that this Margaret Bruce was the daughter of David Bruce of Kennet and Marjorie Young - if anyone can produce any evidence that this is not just wishful thinking, I will be delighted to know that I am therefore descended from Robert the Bruce - but can anyone convince me it's true?

Hi, Nick and Carolyn,
I, too, have those surnames with some Cooks and Allans thrown in. Some in Alloa and some in Tillicoultry.
My direct line: William SNADDON b. 1769 married Ann HUNTER b. 1773
Son James SNADDON b. 1802 married Jean HUNTER b. 1806 (parents: John HUNTER and Mary ALLAN). Their children were:
Mary 1827
William 1829 married to Christian PATERSON
John b. 1831 married to Christina HUNTER (mine)
Leslie Meldrum b. 1837 married to Elizabeth WILSON and 2. Elizabeth MICHIE
James b. 1838
David Drysdale b. 1845 married to Catherine RITCHIE
George b. 1852
Any connections?
Rosemary

Hi Marlene

I also found that Margaret Bruce is daughter of David Bruce of Kennet, They seem to be of the same family as Earls of Elgin, which then would be the same Bruce family as King Robert I. I will let you know if I find out any information. Its fun to know I have "cousins" albeit distant out there.

Hi Rosemary
I have a Catherine Snaddon, daughter of Walter Snaddon
She was born 1748 Alloa Clackmannanshire.
She married a James Fife . They had a son John (born 1782) who married Margaret Hunter approx 1803. (my maiden name is Fife). I even have a couple of Pattersons and Drysdales in my line, so its probably safe to say, we are distantly related.
If you go back on the Snaddon line, it leads to a Margaret Bruce, who appears to be from the "famous Bruce family of Scotland, although I can't say how accurate that is, but its fun to find information. I will try and send you my pedigree information. Its fun to find"distant cousins !!!

Hi, Carolyn,

I have this family in my tree as well. Happy to hear the Snaddons weren't always in the coal mines. Wouldn't mind being related to the Bruces, at all! :)
If you use MSN: roseontheroad@hotmail.com and email address the same if you care to share trees.

Rosemary

I don't have and Elizabeth and George, but do have:

Alexander Hunter m. to Agnes Lawson m. 1789
**They had a son George b. Sept. 14, 1808, married to Janet Leishman

Catherine Lawson m. to Rogert Easton m. 1889
Wiliam Lawson married to Mary McMenamy . 1854

My other George Hunter's are from before a feasible 1848 marriage. Sorry!
With 617 Hunters in the tree, I thought I would be able to help.

Rosemary, not sure if you will get this, but could you please contact me? I'm also hunting for snaddon's and it is possible that William has a brother called James who is my direct ansestor. Am having a bit of trouble tracking down any info regarding him though, I was hoping that you might be able to help me out.

Thanks
Heather
