aparently before 1600 erkinholm was the name for langholm.

ercall in old dutch=hercules. ercall and arkle seem to be the same thing??

I think the link is an anglosaxon one. maybe its the name of a warrior caste/cult based on hercules(guess). or maybe its an anglosaxon clan/house whatver the erm is.

its all very interesting, but feels like nailing blancmange to the ceiling!! it just keeps leading to more strands!

wish i could find a pocket expert to turn to LOL :)
