I have "lost" my g grandmother's brother Charles McMeekan.

I can't find his death in Ireland, and wondered if he had died in Scotland.

A search of the Scotland's People Site drew a blank, even with other spellings.

His wife Margaret (Armstrong) McMeekan, and daughters are in the 1901 and 1911 census living in North St Newtownards Co Down, She is not described as a widow.

The GRO in Belfast searched for a death for me, without a result.

Although there are many ways to spell the name Charles used "McMeekan" or "McMechan"

My g g grandfather Robert McMeekan, a mason, is in the 1901 census, aged 87, Church Street Newtownards Co Down, with my grandmother Margaret Jones her brother Thomas Jones Jun, and Elizabeth Jones, possibly a niece or half sister.

Robert's daughter was Margaret McMeekan, sister of Charles. Margaret married Thomas Jones, who was born Donegal c1839/1842 They were my grandmother's parents. They married Newtownards 1st presbyterian 1866.

When Margaret (McMeekan) Jones died Thomas Senior married Elizabeth Doyle in St Patrick's Newtownards in 1882.

Their son James Jones was born 4 Grant St Helensburgh 31st March 1883.

Charles McMeekan married Margaret Armstrong in Gilnahirk Presbyterian Church c1875/76.
Their daughter Sarah McMeekan was born in 66 East Clyde Street Helensburgh Dec. 1876.

Margaret Armstrong's grandmother was Margaret Strean, sister of Thomas Strean who built Strean Church in Newtownards.
Margaret Strean married James Armstrong, and they had two sons John and George.

As the streets in Helensburgh are close I wondered if the family had relatives there.

Neither couple stayed long in Scotland.

Thomas Jones and Elizabeth (Doyle) moved to Donegal, where Thomas worked in Drumboe Castle as a gardener.

Charles built Sefton's factory in Newtownards in the 1880's and I can't find any more about him after this.

GG grandparents Robert McMeekan and Jane Creighton married in Newtownards.
Jane's parent's were Anthony Creighton and Sarah ??? Unknown also of Church Street Newtownards.
There is a chance Sarah's name could be Miscampbell.
Still looking for their marriage.
