place called Linkenson?

Would anyone be familiar with a town or area known as "Linkenson"?

I'm researching Robert Carruthers who, on the 1861 Scotland Census it says is a "Shepard Away to Linkenson". I've had no luck finding this place. His actual address on the census is Crossmichael, Glenlockar Lodge.

I believe Robert is the husband of Mary Lindsay who is living in Crossmichael, Glenlockar Lodge and is a shepards wife.

I haven't see the actual record so am relying on transcription. Is it possible Linkenson could actually be Lanarkshire or some other word?

In the same census there is a Robert Carruthers b abt 1828, this fellow listed as a shepherd at Hutton parish, Dumfriesshire. This Robert is shows born in Crawford, Lanarkshire so I'm wondering if this could be the same Robert.

Is anyone familiar with Linkenson? If so, is it the same as or near Hutton parish?

thanks for any suggestions.
