John was in the army and I found him and his family on the 1851 census in England, in a barracks in Gloucestershire but it didn’t say what regiment they were with. The family story is that he joined the Duke of Argyll’s (?) Own in order for his siblings Jean and Angus to stay on the farm... my knowledge of history is a bit hazy but this seems plausible. My problem is that, what with half the area seemingly called Cameron and every second child called Ann or John I’m having a hell of a time getting any further!

This is what I know:

John Cameron born @ 1810, Boleskine, Fort Augustus, died 1883 Paisley

Ann Cameron born @ 1814 fort William, died between 1871 and 1881 (living in Paisley in 1871).

I did find a marriage in 1830 in Kilmallie between a John Cameron and an Ann Cameron from Morsuloch– but as I don’t know the area I can’t figure out how or indeed if all these places were linked in the early 1800s. Can’t even find half of them on a map!

Anyone know anything??
