Surnames: Durham Lees
The Mary Ann Lees you mention may be Mary Ann Durham, born about 1812. Her father is "reputed" to be William Durham. Mary Ann dies 10 Feb 1912 at Bruce Court (?) Stonehaven. She married John Lees, a white fisher, on 27 Dec 1846 at Fetteresso. Their children were William 28 Feb 1848 at Dunnottar, John Lees 3 Mar 1851 at Dunnottar, and Andrew 30 Nov 1857 at St. Nicholas, Aberdeen. Another child born 14 Sep 1853 also at Dunnottar, died 5 Jun 1856 at St. Nicholas of small pox. The children's father, John, appears to have been the John Lees who perishes aboard his schooner "St. George" in the hurricane that hit Great Britain on 26 Oct 1859. Mary Ann Durham Lees has a child born out of wedlock with tailor Andrew Bruce on 31 Dec 1866 in Stonehaven named Helen. Helen would die 12 Feb 1886 at Fetteresso of phthisis pulmonalis, generally referred to today as tuberculosis. All the above info was gleaned from sources at ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk. And the associations are mine alone and at this point may not be 100 percent accurate, but seem to fit pretty well. Am trying to determine who this John Lees was and who are his parents. Too few families in Fetteresso and two many given names the same.
