Thank you for your prompt reply. Oh I have found him ok, he was listed in the census under his mother's surname. I just can't find out when he came to Canada. Nor can I find out what happened to his mother. She had another illigitimate child a daughter who was married under her mother's maiden name and they went to live in Brighton. I found the daugther's marriage in 1926, the mother was still living where she always had and then completely disappeard. We think that she must have moved to be with the daugther in Brighton, and would have died somewhere in the 1930's but it is somewhat difficult to find information in that era. I joined the Sussex Family history group and they are excellent at stuff older that 100 years but the 1900.s almost completely unobtainable. I have sent away for one death certificate to see what comes of that.
