I have recently found some of my MCDONNELL family in Glasgow through Scotland's people site. I am now more confused than ever.
I have a Michael and Edward MCDONNELL who are brothers born in Fermanagh. They have another brother Thomas who stayed in Ireland, remained a bachelor and died there. Their parents were Hugh MCDONNELL and Bessie MAGUIRE.
Michael married Catherine DONEGAN (born Ireland), July 18th 1905 in Saint Mary's Chapel in Glasgow, with Edward MCDONALD as a witness and parents as listed above. This couple has 2 children: Hugh (named for his grandfather) born September 16, 1906 and Thomas (named for Uncle) born July 10, 1910, family living at 24 Winning Row. All documentation is correct and one would expect to find them next in the 1911 census.
1911 Census: While searching for Michael MCDONNELL/MCDONALD I cannot find anything that fits with a wife Catherine/Kate/etc.
While searching for Edward MCDONNELL/MCDONALD I find Edward and wife Catherine at 24 Winning Row with the above 2 children and having been married 6 years. Was this really Michael or Edward. Did Michael assume Edward's name as he was in trouble with the law? If so where did the real Edward go?? I cannot find a marriage for Edward in Glasgow or in Fermanagh.
I know it is late and that I am tired but after making such a great discovery for Michael I am stymied by the census findings. Any help suggestions, etc are more than welcome and appreciated. Where to go from here to go forward with searching this family.
