Looking at the indexes of births - he was born in Canongate, Edinburgh in 1940. There was another Harry Verdun Pittman (his son ??) born in the George Square district of Edinburgh in 1964. The register of deaths show no Harry Pittman's, with or without a middle name, so if they remained in Scotland it looks like they're both still alive.
