He He he - its 10 years later and I do now have Elizabeth Fairbairn nee Simpson's birth record. She was a great one for understating her age.

Her birth record in the OPR says she was actually born in 1823 so she was 14 years old when she was baptized in 1837.

She was also born "out of wedlock" - her parents - Betty Walls (bn Oback, South Ronaldsay, 1805) and James Simpson - (bn 1802) were never married.

Betty Walls and Elizabeth Simpson both ended up in New Zealand.

Betty Walls married thomas watson in 1842 and they travelled out to NZ on the Philip Laing in 1842 to settle in Dunedin.

Elizabeth Simpson Married Thomas Fairbairn in Edinburgh in 1856 and they immigrated to Dunedin, NZ in 1858.

Right now I am still trying to find the families and birthplaces of James Simpson (1821 census says he was a servant in widewall aged 18), Elspeth Walls - married William Walls in 1797. May have come from FLAWS - wherever that is.
William Walls - aka Wass and Waas, Walls and Waas, are both Sanday names - but otherwise I have NOTHING on this William Walls.
