My late husband's, Ian David Marshall,grandfather was Theophilus Smith Marshall born 1841 in Greenock the eighth child of Theophilus Smith Marshall, b 25.7.1803 in Scone and Mary Morrison b 24.10.1806 in Greenock. His grandparents were Robert Marshall, a weaver, born 1767 in Balgarvie and Catherine Robertson born 22.5.1759 in Balgarvie. I had great difficulty locating Balgarvie but a Scottish relative has discovered it was a hamlet near Scone. Until very recently it seemed to have disappeared except for an old farm still bearing the name but now it seems it has been rediscovered by the developers and is being flogged by real estate agents. It is interesting that the ninth )and last) child of TS andMary Morrison was named Walter Crawford which would seem to indicate a connection with the Crawfords.
