Dear Wendy
I am currently researching documents in the National Records of Scotland in relation to a field survey of upper Glen Lochay by the Association of Certificated Field Archaeologists (ACFA). I have recorded numerous pieces of information on Kenknock, sometimes referred to as Wester Kenknock. This is because there was another Kenknock at the foot of the glen (There is also another in Glen Lyon, just to add to the confusion.). I have a number of references to McDiarmids and I will be happy to email them to you - I'm not sure that I can add attachments to this site, so perhaps if you could email me I can than send you the information.
Here, though is a sample:
1670 – 1715
‘Oban Times 9th May 1896 Part of an article on Glenlyon McDiarmids " In the 'Book of Garth and Fortingall' the author asserts that John McDiarmid of Craigianie, Baron McDiarmid, married about 1670 a daughter of John Campbell, Tutor of Glenlyon, second son of Duncan Campbell, fourth of Glenlyon, by whom he had a son, John McDiarmid of Craigianie, who bought Kerromore from the Duke of Athole, but in expectation of the Rebellion of 1715, sold it to Charles Stewart who thereafter sold it to Old Culdares; and further, that this John had a son, a third John McDiarmid of Craigianie, who left Glenlyon and went to Kenknock in Glenlochay.’
