Hi!
I have to smile when you ask about "my DEWARs" as though I have a whole flock of them. I have ONE and I'm not even related to her. Would love to be able to claim her and more, as the romantic stories about the relics of St. Fillans appeal to me.
Catherine (or Katherine) DEWAR was married to John, a brother of my 3rd great grandfather Peter McDougall (M'Dugald). They all came to Ontario in the early 1800s from Perthshire. I intend to write more about them to Susan Petta-Nokes, here, within a day or two.
About Catherine DEWAR:
Christened 02 Nov 1777, Crieff. Christening information taken from Extracted birth and/or christening Scottish Church Records, based on British Crown Copyright data for Crieff, Perth, Scotland.
She married John MacDougall 08 Jul 1798 at Kenmore, Perthshire. They and children Dougald J.and Isabel came to Canada in 1815 on the ship 'Dorothy'. John and Katherine settled on the North 1/2 of Lot 11-Concession 8 of Lochiel Township. John and his family were one of the 13 original families that organized the Breadalbane Baptist Church.
The reason I've included CAMPBELL in the surname list above is that I'd dearly love to receive information from someone about my 3rd great grandmother Jane or Jean CAMPBELL married 10 May 1817 to Peter McDougall at Kenmore. She's presumably from Perthshire, but I don't know where nor when she was born. The newlyweds Peter and Jane sailed on the ship 'Agincourt' in August 1817. They settled on the South 1/2 of Lot 10 - Ninth Concession, Lochiel Township in Glengarry County, Ontario. They both died before 1851.
All of the above information is from a 3rd cousin of mine - she through the McLaurins and I through the (Skye via Cape Breton!) McLeods.
Cheers,
Beth
