Deb,
The information I gave you is from the parish records that are freely available in the Family Search IGIs. I am not researching your family. I was born in Hawick and still live in Roxburghshire.

A family gravestone was transcribed from Wilton Old Cemetery in Hawick. This cemetery no longer exists, it is now a public park.

In remembrance of Joseph Scott late ironmonger in Hawick who died on the 26th of August 1849 aged 64 years also Jane Veitch his spouse who died on the 22nd of December ---- aged 63 years also Joseph Scott son of the above who died on the 23 January 1836 aged 7 years.

A note following this inscription reads "his only surviving child Elizabeth married Walter Paisley who succeeded to the business. His shop was in the Sandbed. Business later moved to 21 and then to 43 High Street.

Paisley the ironmongers was in business until the 1960s.

Regards, Morag
